Whisky Firm Brings UK Spirit to Japan

“We are really excited, and the support of UKTI has been excellent.”
Colin Sinclair, Whisky Tasting Company

A specialist in premium whisky gift sets, the Whisky Tasting Company has unique agreements with whisky brand owners throughout Scotland and Wales and is making its first movements into export markets thanks to the help of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

By introducing delegates to pioneers in the Japanese wine import market, advisors from UKTI were able to facilitate a highly successful trade deal to be secured between Whisky Tasting Company and one of Japan’s leading travel agencies – Japan Travel Bureau.

The deal will see Whisky Tasting Company products exhibited in catalogues on planes and trains all over Japan, a prospect Managing Director Colin Sinclair is delighted about.

“We are really excited, and the support of UKTI has been excellent. I reckon we could be seeing 20 per cent of this coming year’s turnover from Japan thanks to this.”

Mr Sinclair has also identified the current financial situation as a terrific time for expansion into the Japanese market. “Because of the strength of the yen, it’s an excellent time for them to buy British products, and export orders are much larger,” he said.

This success story represents how UKTI can help businesses large and small arrange and participate in events, schedule appointments and establish relations with key Japanese partners.
