Sarah Hildersley – High Growth Market Specialist: Department for International Trade SW

With extensive business development experience as a British diplomat all over the world helping UK companies achieve sales success, and private sector experience from Iraq, Sarah now advises South West companies on their approach to selling in complex markets in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.  Having worked extensively with small businesses and some of the largest UK firms, Sarah is well placed to help our companies secure sales in the most efficient way.  Sarah helps companies analyse their route to market and to secure sustainable sales.  She recently took on the expanded role of High Growth Markets Specialist in recognition of our levelling-up plans to help South West companies break into new markets

Andrew Clare, Legal Director at DAC Beachcroft

Andrew Clare is a corporate lawyer in the firm’s Manchester office.

Andrew has been involved in a number of ground breaking transactions at previous law firms, including:

  • US$1.2 billion refinancing of a major Japanese telecoms company, then the largest financing deal of its type ever done in Asia;
  • Simultaneous disposal of shares and assets in a brand name telecoms group across three European jurisdictions;
  • Reverse takeover and IPO of a significant Scandinavian cosmetics company;
  • Global business process outsourcing (BPO) agreement for a major pharmaceutical group.

Having spent almost a decade in Japan, Andrew also has particular expertise in advising Japanese businesses both in Japan and the UK and is able to work in the Japanese language.

James Carter, Head of Renewable Energy and Automotive trade for the Department for International Trade at the British Embassy Tokyo

The team is split between Tokyo and Osaka, and primarily focuses on offshore wind and automotive, while covering other energy related sectors such as hydrogen and electricity grid management.

Rhydian Pountney, Former Director of Group Comerical Services, Renishaw

Rhydian Pountney recently retired as the Director of Group Commercial Services at Renishaw plc responsible for marketing, commercial support and the field service operations. Joined Renishaw in 1979 and spent most of his working career in International Sales & Marketing including spending four years in Hong Kong and China. During his time at Renishaw Rhydian has been responsible for establishing numerous offices throughout Asia and Central Europe

Rhydian was also the UK chair of the Technology Collaboration and Advanced Engineering Working Group of the India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) and is a DIT South West Export Champion
