What is Osaka Expo 2025

Osaka Kansai Expo 2025 was held from 13 April to 13 October 2025 at Yumeshima Island in Osaka, Kansai Japan.

The theme was

“Designing Future Society for Our Lives”

with sub-themes;

  • ‘Saving Lives’,
  • ‘Empowering Lives’ and
  • ‘Connecting Lives’.

The UK pavilion was located in the ‘Saving Lives’ area.

At the outset, the Expo expected 28.2 million visitors, including 3 million from overseas. Ultimately, it drew 29,017,924 visitors in total—of which 25,578,986 were paid admissions. During its run, daily attendance frequently surpassed 100,000, and in some cases reached 200,000 in a single day.

It was the second World Expo hosted by Osaka (the first in 1970) and the third for Japan overall, following Aichi in 2005. Expo 2025 was one of the largest events of the decade for Japan, spotlighting the Kansai region. With an economy roughly equivalent to South Korea’s, many UK companies found opportunities both before and during the event.
