Consumer Goods

Japan is the ultimate consumer-led society. Japanese people still spend a huge amount of their income on consumer goods.

At 80% this is far higher than other comparable developed economies. Consumer trends rise and then fall rapidly setting the pace for the rest of Asia, and young professionals are a key segment for retailers. However, the amount of wealth tied up in households means that the highest-consuming age bracket are 60 to 70 year olds.
