Japan is a popular destination for UK companies seeking to expand into an overseas market. Watch the recorded webinar to find out how you can commercialise your technology and improve your chances of securing a deal.
Opportunities for UK Tech Companies
As home to dozens of major corporations spanning multiple sectors Japan remains an attractive place for UK companies looking to commercialise their technology. Opportunities are now greater than ever with many domestic companies cutting down their own Research & Development departments, and looking to in-licence technologies that can give them an edge in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Japan is regarded as one of the “safest” places to share your intellectual property – particularly compared to other markets in Asia – but there remain a number of challenges including lengthy sales cycles, cultural barriers and vestiges of the “Not Invented Here” syndrome. This webinar explores ways of commercialising your technology, interesting target sectors, and how to maximise your chances of securing a deal.
UK Trade & Investment Japan’s Head of Technology Team, Etsuo Watanbe, hosts our guest speakers.
Alex Gover studied Japanese, Chinese and Economics at Oxford University and went on to take a Diploma in Advanced Japanese at Sophia University in Tokyo. He has worked in and with Japan for the past 20 years, including for a time at Sony’s International Marketing Division at the company’s head office in Tokyo. Alex is currently Director of Business Development with Intralink, a UK company that works with western technology firms looking to grow their business in Japan and the greater APAC region. During his time with Intralink, Alex has been responsible for developing and implementing market entry strategies across a range of sectors, including semiconductors, consumer electronics, telecommunications, and enterprise software. He is also a key member of the company’s IPR licensing team.
