British Government Department that helps UK-based companies succeed in the global economy
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the British Government Department that helps UK-based companies succeed in the global economy. We also help overseas companies bring their high quality investment to the UK’s dynamic economy acknowledged as Europe’s best location from which to succeed in global business.
DBT Japan is based in the British Embassy Tokyo and British Consulate-General Osaka. We have more than 20 experienced market specialists on hand to provide advice, guidance and services to UK companies looking to explore or expand into the Japanese market. We also work with our colleagues across the Embassy to ensure UK companies benefit from our information and contacts across business and decision-makers in the country.
We helped around 2000 British companies understand the market last year, with direct support for around 150 to enter or expand into the market. This support depended on the needs of the company, and the opportunity in the market, but included contact building, market research, strategic planning and events hosting.
For UK companies we offer impartiality and honest advice about what we think works and what we think doesn’t in this market – so you can make the most informed decisions. Our expert trade advisers have huge experience working on behalf of UK companies in the market, and many have come directly from the relevant industries themselves. The British Embassy and Consulate-General are widely respected in Japan and we can open doors, enhance your profile and credibility here. We have an extensive contact database across all major sectors.
We have established Export to Japan along with British Airways, the British Chamber of Commerce and Business Link Japan to provide you with better access to information about the market, services to help you make decisions about the opportunity for your company in Japan, and for our clients to have access to an ecosystem of real business support from companies based in the market.
You can contact our teams directly via the contact form. For details of all the sectors we cover see Key Industries.
